“We are very pleased that Delano has committed to host this historic event in the famous Old Cowtown Museum. There is not a better place to celebrate the history of the Chisholm Cattle Trail,” said D.R. Katzenmeier President of the International Chisholm Trail Association (ICTA).
The 2019 Chisholm Trail Conference and annual meeting will take place in Wichita on September 12 -14.
“If you attend, we will educate you with top notch historians from across the U.S., entertain you with that good old western music, inspire you with our state and national policymakers from Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas, awe you with Western Art, help you savor some fine chuck wagon cook’n,’ honor one of our favorite cowboys and then head for the Stockyards for a little country swing,” said Katzenmeier. “Spend the evening in the dim lit streets of Old Wichita Cowtown – there might even be a shoot-out,” he said.
Speakers include historians Dr. Jay Price, professor at WSU and KSU professor Dr. James E. Sherow, author of the newly published book “The Chisholm Trail – Joseph McCoy’s Great Gamble.”. Other historians such as Michael R. Grauer of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, Frank Norris, National Park Service – retired, and Larry Justice, professor at Newman University and President of the Santa Fe Trail Association, will also be presenting.
Jim Hoy, Director Emeritus – Center for Great Plains Studies and retired professor at ESU will educate and entertain with singing the Cattle up the Trail. “Ron Wilson and Jeff Davidson from KSU will also be sharing with us,” Katzenmeier said.
Policymakers will join in a panel to discuss the proposed Congressional designation of the Chisholm and Western Trails as National Historic Trails. Scheduled speakers include Lieutenant Governor Lynn Rogers; Congressman Roger Marshall (invited); Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell; Debbie Luper, District Director for Congressman Ron Estes; Judd Gardner, Staff Assistant to Senator Jerry Moran; and Dr. Deena Fisher, Dean of NW Oklahoma State University – Woodward.
