The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will present an online rangeland workshop on the Zoom platform on June 30 at 9 a.m.

The cost is $10, and three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units are available for participants with a pesticide applicators license, one in laws and regulations, and two in integrated pest management.

The workshop will cover the latest herbicide products and resources available for rangeland brush and weed control efforts.

“Land managers have several new products to choose from when it comes to herbicides,” said Pascual Hernandez, AgriLife Extension agent for Sutton County. “Understanding if the product is absorbed by leaves or stems, is taken up by roots or has soil residual life is important.”

The basics of plant growth, how herbicide uptake occurs, the effect on the plant and the effect of environmental factors will also be covered.

“It’s important to have a basic understanding of plant processes and how environmental factors affect herbicide efficacy because it facilitates proper use and will help set accurate expectations,” Hernandez said.

Topics and speakers will include:

• Herbicide Mode of Action — Josh McGinty, AgriLife Extension agronomist, Corpus Christi,
• Rangeland Herbicide — Bob Lyons, AgriLife Extension rangeland specialist, Uvalde, and
• Texas Pesticide Laws and Regulations – Cory Pence, Texas Department of Agriculture regional training specialist, Fort Stockton.
