49th Annual American Gelbvieh Association National Convention Recap

Last week was a busy one for the AGA at the 49th Annual AGA National Convention in Billings, Montana. We were glad to see a great turnout for this convention! This year’s convention title sponsors were SweetPro and Neogen.

The week began with an AGA Board of Directors meeting. Next on the schedule was the opening general session, which included Marty Ropp, Allied Genetic Resources as keynote speaker, the state of the association and president’s address presentations. The first day wrapped up with a kick-off reception complete with live entertainment!

On Thursday morning convention attendees hopped on a shuttle bus and toured three of the most well recognized beef cattle-related companies in the Billings area: ORIgen, World West Sire Service, and Midland Bull Test. Thursday afternoon featured the Cattlemen’s Profit Roundup at the convention site which was chocked full of great information from industry-leading speakers including Tanner Aherin, CattleFax, Ryan Ludvigson, Ludvigson Stock Farm, and Bob Cook, Public Auction Yards. The evening concluded with the Bull Pen Session at 406 Kitchen and Taproom.

The final day of convention started with the breed improvement committee meeting as well as an estate planning session sponsored by the American Gelbvieh Foundation. The day also included the election of the 2020 board of directors at the AGA Annual Meeting.   The convention wrapped up with an awards banquet sponsored by the American Gelbvieh Foundation. Rodger and Lindy Schroeder, Chugwater, Wyoming, were awarded the commercial producer of the year, Skyler and Annette Martin, Blackhawk Cattle Company, Oregon, Illinois, received the breeder of the year award, and outgoing board members Doug Hughes, Max Meadow, Virginia, and Walter Teeter, Mount Ulla, North Carolina, were recognized. The AGA also honored Jim Thomas, Oklahoma, as the newest inductee into the AGA Hall of Fame.
